Not only will technology progress and make your new TV obsolete swiftly, but LCD TVs have a limited life span and by their very nature are not designed to last a lifetime . It is a good idea to shop around locally , find the set that appeals to you and collect all the information you can . Read any pamphlets you can obtain . Remember, you have the best information source at your finger tips so research on line before you make any decision .

Having decided on your choice of a TV, then use the trusty internet to find the best prices . Beware of assuming that on line shops will always be cheaper , and look out for hidden extras and benefits . Remember a free gift is only useful if you really want what is on offer , money saved or free insurance are much more useful in the long run . Once you have your list of prices, do not rule out your local retailer . Armed with your print out of prices approach all of them , if one offers to match , or better the best price you have get it in writing and then use that as your base line to negotiate with others . Ideally find two companies who claim they will not be beaten on price and pit them against each other.

Finally , once you have the best price you can reasonably achieve check what protection the warranty gives you and do not be drawn into buying unnecessary insurance . Check before you buy whether your standard household policy covers TVs as many do , and if not it is often cheaper to add it as a named item on your insurance than to take out a separate policy from the vendor .

LCD vs Plasma

Choosing just the right type of television can be complicated, so here are a few variations between LCD and Plasma TV’s. Both types of televisions are thin and flat in appearance, but they use different technology to deliver the same results.

Some advantages of a plasma television are: Larger screen size, you get better color, and better motion tracking. Disadvantages are: Plasma televisions burn-in static images because of the heat they generate, so they end up producing more heat than LCD’s. They also will not perform well at higher altitudes.

Advantages of LCD televisions over Plasma are: They operate at a cooler temperature, no static images are burned in, increased brightness of images, and they are lighter in weight than Plasma TV’s. There are also no issues concerning high altitudes.

The disadvantages of LCD over plasma may include: Contrast ratio being lower, tracking motion not very good, the pixels used in LCD televisions can burn out and then the whole screen would have to be replaced. LCD televisions can also be more expensive when purchasing in comparison with plasma.

Let’s talk about the durability of both kinds of televisions. Plasmas are very fragile and should be handled carefully in shipment and installation. They should actually be installed by a professional, and put on a wall that can bear a lot of weight. LCD TV’s on the other hand can easily be mounted on a wall, but they still need to be handled with special care. If you consider having one of these televisions shipped to you then note that LCD TV’s are not as expensive to ship as plasma displays.

When considering brightness and contrast you may want to note that Plasma TV’s have higher levels of brightness and contrast than LCD’s. Although on the other hand, LCD TV’s reflect little light which allows them to look good in well-lit rooms. Power consumption may be of interest for you so just remember that LCD TV’s have lower power consumption than a Plasma TV of equal size. If you are interested in the thickness of the screen when considering both types of televisions then you should know that LCD TV’s are about 2 inches deep and Plasma TV’s are as thin as 3 inches deep.

Three Tips On Buying A LCD TV

If you plan to buy the Blu-Ray Disc, High Definition DVD or upscaling DVD player, LCD TV will let you get 1080p resolutions for a lower price than the plasma TVs, so you want to see that the LCD TV you pick has this resolution option. Chances are with the expanding market on these products, you will be glad to have purchased the LCD TV with this resolution value.

LCD TVs can have High Definition resolution capabilities or not (this is EDTV that requires that the HDTV signals be converted into a lower resolution to be compatible with the particular LCD television), you will probably want to be sure that your television has HDTV capability.

Also to view the High Definition offerings from broadcasters you will need a set-top tuner and an external antenna. If you choose the high definition model, the best thing to do is call your cable or satellite provider and have them hook you up to what you need.

Since many LCDs are using HDMI interfaces, these allow you to hook several components up with just one cable, if you do select an LCD TV that is not HDMI and would like to purchase a cable later, they can cost from $15.00 up to $200.00 for six feet of length.

The size of your TV's screen should be according to the size of the room you are going to put it in. If you have a room no bigger than fifteen feet going either way, you don't need a super sized TV screen, overly large screens will not increase the actual view for the viewers. While you don't want a LCD TV that's overly big for the size of the room, LCD TVs are lightweight and can be easily mounted onto a wall no matter how large they are. So something bigger than you are accustomed to might be in order.

So when buying a LCD TV you will want to check for features such as 1080p resolution, to be used with the new products on the market, such as video games. You will want to check for HDTV capability and HDMI interface. And you will want to select a size that is possibly bigger than before, but not huge compared to the size of the room you are putting it in.

Why LCD Is Better Than Plasma

There are many reasons to own an LCD TV over a Plasma TV. LCD TVs have no high altitude problems.LCD TVs have longer life spans. LCD TVs have increased image brightness and cooler running temperatures!

The LCD TV has no problem with high altitudes, say you live in the mountains of Colorado. Where the Plasma TV would freeze or burn in screen more often, the LCD would not freeze and would not burn the image into the screen. The Plasma burn in the screen would ruin the whole television causing you to pay more money to replace the plasma television set.

Plasma TV’s usually only last about thirty thousand hours or in other words about eight hours a day for nine years. When the LCD TV lasts about sixty thousand hours or in other words about eight hours a day for eighteen years! That is another nine years longer! Even when it does die, sometimes you only have to replace the light source! With the Plasma TV you have to replace the whole television set.

The increased brightness gives you more options than the darker more hard to view Plasma TV. The Plasma TV is made for darker images, where the LCD Television is made for breathtaking brighter out looks of the scenery.   LCD Television sets are actually ahead of the Plasma Television sets in HD technology too! The there are only a few plasma television sets that have the full 1080P HD experience, which actually causes the LCD screens to show the brighter and more beautiful images! Some Plasma TV’s do, but most are small twenty inch screens that do not let you see everything that is going on.

With the LCD television sets there are even some that are sixty-five inch screens that have the full HD experience (1920x1080) display capability. LCD also is more affordable than Plasma screens that include 1080P HD technology in the displays.

Another factor in LCD television sets is that they are lighter than the Plasma Televisions that have the same size screen! So if you have a forty-two inch screen in Plasma Television set compared to the LCD Television with the same size screen, the LCD TV would be lighter and easier to maneuver! These are just some of the reasons to own a LCD over a Plasma TV!
